Trucking Regulations in Louisiana
Louisiana upholds certain regulations for truck drivers in order to maintain both the safely of the drivers and that of the other vehicles on the road. When these regulations are not followed, this can lead to serious accidents that can have life-altering consequences.

What regulations does a driver have to follow?
According to the Louisiana state's Department of Transportation (DOT), all truck drivers must follow certain weight, length, and height limits when they are transporting loads.
These requirements include:
Length: Maximum of 65' on non-designated truck routes
Overhang: Maximum of 8' rear and 4' front
Weight: Maximum of 80,000 lbs.
Height: Maximum of 13'6"
Truck drivers are allowed to travel 1/2 hour before sunrise until 1/2 hour after sunset, Monday through Saturday. Only under special circumstances can a truck driver travel on Sunday until 1:00 P.M.
Failure to abide by the DOT's requirements can make the road a very dangerous place. The most common truck accidents include jackknifing, tire blowouts, underrides, and loss of control. Drivers of smaller cars must never forget that truck drivers cannot react as quickly, which also leads to collisions.
